MRF-Clutch Design and Performance Simulation
This study focuses on the design of a Magnetorheological Fluid (MRF) clutch with high transmittable torque, and the simulating of its mechanical performance. The equations for transmitted torque of the clutch are derived using the Bingham plastic constitutive model. Those equations are used to evaluate the two basic types of clutch and the transmitted torque differences are compared between those two types. A nondimensional parameter is then derived to demonstrate the particle centrifuging of MRF. The simulating results concerned with transmitted torque are figured out to compare with the experimental data. It was demonstrated that the clutch is capable of producing high controllable torques.
