Face Drawback Inspection Based on Single Gray Image

The three-dimension shape information obtained from single gray image of the workpiece can be used to evaluate its surface quality or drawback. This article has investigated the method that can recover depth data of the workpiece from single image based on the shape from shading (SFS) theory and the relationship between the surface gray and gradient. The shape from shading can be applied to evaluate the machining part surface quality and defect. The method has been used to recover the depth data of a bearing surface from the single gray image quite well. The experiment certificated that the shape from shading provided another approach to inspect the surface quality or drawback of the part surface, and had some advantages of easily operation, rapid processing speed and precision.
