Optical Humidity Sensitive Composite Model of Sol-GelCeramic Films
An optical humidity-sensitive composite model of the sol-gel ceramic films is presented based on Maxwell-Garnett and effective medium theory. The composite model is composed of the air medium, the ellipsoidal crystalline grain and the water layers. Under the humidity circumstance, the adsorption of water molecules on ceramic materials will induce an increase in thin film effective refractive index. In this work, the sol-gel derived SiO2 films are selected as humidity-sensitive materials. The relation between effective refractive index and relative humidity is drawn for different absorption factors and porosities. The results indicate that the lager the absorption factor is, the higher the refractive index is, and the refractive index of humidity-sensitive film SiO2 decreases with the increase of ceramic material porosity. Further, the theoretical simulation based the presented complex model is in agreement with the experimental humidity-sensing curve of A H Alberto.
