Drag Reduction of Non-Newtonian Fluid in a Sinusoidal Wavy-Walled Tube for Steady Flow
It is very significant and necessary to increase truly drag reduction of aqueous Polyacryla- mide (PAM) polymer solutions in disposing water and petroleum industry. In this study, the effect of drag reduction of the Polyacrylamide in a straight and a wavy-walled tube is investigated. Experiments were performed at 25 ℃ for solution concentrations from 50 to 400wppm. It is found that the best effect of drag reduction could be attained when the PAM is added to water in an appreciate concentration and an optimal concentration is found according to the f-Re curve. Furthermore, in the laminar flow region, the friction factor is linearly depended on Reynolds number, which is the same as the Newtonian fluid. It is also found that the transitional flow moves up as the drag reduction compared with the Newtonian fluid.
