Optical Performance Analysis of Coherence of LED on Grating Light Modulator
A novel projection system based on grating light modulator(GLM) is proposed in this paper. The diffraction characteristics of GLM illuminated by LED is discussed by using partially coherent light theory and simulated by MATLAB software. The research shows the coherence of light source affects the quality of image, when LED is used as light source. The size of light source will influence the quality of optical information processing barely, when the ratio of the size of light source and the distance between GLM and light source is less than 0.03. Furthermore, If the bandwidth was reduced by filtering to the range of 3db, an ideal image effect will be acquired. Finally, the feasibility of LED as the light source to GLM is testified and proven by related experiments.
