Circuit Study for Auto-initiating Water Pulsed Plasma

An attempt is made to design circuit of auto-initiating water pulsed plasma that can be used without an igniter plug. The pulsating arc could be achieved even without the spark plug provided that the energy across the plates is high enough to break the insulation between the electrode plates. The performance of the auto-initiating circuit is that frequency and pulse width of the pulsation could be controlled by peripheral circuit of NE555 and the voltage applied by the voltage source. Using an input of 24VDC, voltage up to 20KVDC, frequency range to 0-20KHz, was obtained with the novel power supply designed. The results of the study are important for the application of water pulsed plasma in satellite and interplanetary classes of missions where restrictions in terms of mass and power requirements are very critical.
