The Design of a Conductance Probe for Measuring Liquid-film Thickness in Gas-liquid Two-phase Flow

A conductance probe and the related electronic circuits are developed and studied experimentally for measuring the liquid-film thickness in gas-liquid two-phase flow. The device consists of electrode pairs inserted in horizontal circular pipes and the related electronics. An A.C. carrier voltage of 60 kHz frequency is applied to a Wheatstone bridge in which the load impedance of electrode pairs occupies one branch, and then a balanced demodulator converts the A.C. signal into a D.C. signal proportional to the impedance of the liquid-film. The performance of the probe was investigated under stratified flow regime with air and tap water, and the results of experiment have indicated that the measurement errors almost fall within ±13.2%. The error is mainly due to without considering the effects of the temperature and liquid properties.
