Analysis on Factors of Influencing Dielectric Barrier Discharge Ion Source Ionization Efficiency

The method of experimentation is used to research the ionization efficiency in dielectric barrier discharges ion source in condition of gass different flux and taking an action of impedance matching. The object of this experiment is the standard mixtures gases of ethanol in nitrogen. Research findings show that the ionization efficiency of this ion source is diminished with when the gass flux is increased. For example, when the flux is 60 L/h, the ionization efficiency is as high as 33%, but ionization efficiency is decreased tempestuously with the increasing of flux. Once the flux overstep 160 L/h, the decreasing trend of the ionization efficiency gets smaller. When the flux reaches maximum (400L/h) the ionization efficiency gets minimum (about 3.5%).Inductive impedance is paralleled with dielectric barrier discharges ion source, Experiments show that the ionization efficiency is improved. The reason for this phenomenon is as follow: (1)when the flux is low the diffuse mode discharges is established; However when the flux is high the atmospheric pressure glow discharges can be established. The positive ions density in the diffuse mode discharges is 103 ~ 105 times the amount of the atmospheric pressure glow discharges. Otherwise, Its good for this phenomenon to shorten substance resort time in ionization area in condition of high flux.(2)More energy in power source is used to ionizeing in all kinds of condition.
