Density measurement for stratified fluid usinggrating Schlieren method

A simple density measurement system for stratified fluid is proposed, which utilizes a grating in a traditional Schlieren system to transform the light ray deflection caused by the density variation of a flow field into the deformation of fringe pattern formed by the grating projection. The density information of the flow field can be then extracted from the deformed fringe pattern. The system proposed is simple in setup and easy to adjust, and has a large measurement range. For fringe pattern analysis, wavelet transform phase extraction method is applied. Noise effect and invalid data can be effectively eliminated through the choice of optimized analyzing wavelet and form of wavelet transform, and the phase analyzing precision can be thus improved.
