Optical fiber ultrasonic sensors based on wavelength division multiplezing technology

We have designed optical fiber ultrasonic sensors based on Fabry-Perot interferometry, and given the principle structure of the sensor probe. The principle of the phenomena of phase induced signal fade in interferometric sensors has been analyzed and the method of multiplexing has been presented. Effective multiplexing for a number of fiber-optic Fabry–Perot sensors is based on wavelength division multiplexing. For wavelength division multiplexing methods, the sensors are arranged in different wavelength domains formed by a wavelength division multiplexer. The signal of each sensor is exported from a tunable narrowband optical filter that queries every sensor though scanning mode. At the same time, the system implemented the operation of anti-phase induced signal fade detection and multiplexing. The result of experiment in water show that the sensor sensitivity reaches -162dB(0dB=1rad/μPa), the frequency response range is from 5 KHz to 5 MHz. The multiplexing number of sensor elements reaches to 8.
