Virtual Test and Evaluation Technology on Low Speed Impact

Virtual Test and Evaluation (VT&E) has been widely used in mechanical engineering. But the accuracy and validity of virtual test on impact problem are still under discussion. In order to get some useful results on precision and credibility of virtual impact test, we have analyzed some factors which could influence the virtual test on a spherical shell under low speed impact in the paper. Firstly, FE models of a spherical shell and a projectile have been constructed in HyperMesh. Afterwards, behaviors of spherical shell under low speed impact are computed in Radioss. We obtained test data of hollow radius a and ridge width l related to initial velocity of projectile v0. Then the distortion characteristics are discussed briefly. In order to verify the accuracy of virtual test, a comparison of virtual test result, experiment result and theory result1 is carried out.
