A Novel Protection Mechanism to Resist DoS Attacks in WLAN

A light-weight DoS-resistant mechanism in WLAN is proposed, and JFK, a new type key exchange protocol, is presented, as show in Fig 1.Analysis shows that JFK is efficient and DoS-resistant can be used to protect the management and control frames of 802.11i with authentication. Aiming to be compatible with existing 802.11i, authentication and key exchange procedure of JFK is embedded into 802.11i framework seamlessly, as show in Fig 2. A test bed is setup and developed to test our mechanism. Based on the results obtained from the numerous tests performed on our test bed, by contrasting between the 802.11i WLAN and WLAN which implement our mechanism under DoS attacks, we can see that our mechanism is effective in resisting DoS attacks in WLAN.
