Crack Alleviating Mizture (CAM) Design

In order to alleviate the cracks generation and propagation problems that arise easily on the semi-rigid base course asphalt pavement and the asphalt overlay on the existing cement pavement, a new type of asphalt mixture, called crack alleviating mixture(CAM) is proposed in this paper. The blending aggregate gradation scope of crack alleviating mixture is proposed. According to the location of mix within asphalt pavement, the marshall mix design criteria are recommended. These CAM and AC-13 modified asphalt blend test specimens are prepared and tested. The comparative researches of the two types of asphalt mixture on Marshall stability, Marshall immersion stability, the dynamic stability, low-temperature bending strength, indirect tensile strength and other performance indices have been made. The experimental results indicate that the volumetric properties and road performance test properties of the design CAM can satisfy Chinese present standard to the highway and arterial roads specification and alleviating cracking performance of CAM has the distinct enhancement compared to the AC-13 asphalt mixture.
