Developing Operations Strategies in the Supply Chain Contezt
The aim of this paper is to develop a comprehensive model to understand operations strategy in the context of supply chain management. A structural equation model is developed to test the relationships among supply chain strategy, operations strategy, supply chain integration, and firm performance based on the data collected from 614 Chinese manufacturers. The four operations strategies are developed under lean supply chain strategy. But, flexibility strategy is also cultivated by emphasizing agile supply chain strategy. Furthermore, operations strategies influence the implementation of supply chain integration practices. However, delivery strategy has no significant impact on either internal or external supply chain integration. Finally, it is found that only internal integration has a significant impact on financial performance. This study provides operations strategy a new perspective of supply chain management by linking operations strategy with supply chain strategy, supply chain integration, and firm performance.
