The Nature of Human Contribution to Inter-organisation Production Planning and Control and its Relevance to Organisation and Process Design
This paper sets out to improve our understanding of the human element of supply chain production planning across businesses. In-depth case studies on production planning and control in individual manufacturing businesses, the significant part ‘people’ play and the organization forms and processes that support them are examined in relation to existing theory on decision making, knowledge use and organisation design. The findings from these cases are extrapolated into the realm of the supply chain and a conceptual framework is developed that integrates these valuable findings with existing theory on supply chain collaboration.
