Optimal Design of Control Charts Based on ECTU

In statistical quality control, usually the mean and variance of a manufacturing process are monitored jointly by median and range chart with statistical robustness. In this paper, a joint by median and range chart scheme with variable sample size and sampling intervals is proposed. A cost function is derived and it provides a device for optimal selection of the design parameters. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model, its adjusted average time to signal (AATS) and the expected cost per time unite (ECTU) are compared with that of a fixed-parameter chart through a numerical example. The results indicate that the saving from the developed model is possibly provided.
