The Problem of the Criteria Testing for Assignable Causes in GB Shewhart control charts and Its Adjustment

In the article, we study the out-of-control criteria in Shewhart control charts of GB/T 4091-2001 (idt ISO 8258:1991). We calculate the probability of every criterion to test for assignable cause precisely , the result is that the probability of criterion eight which is successive eight dots are at two sides of center line ,but none dot is at C zone is much smaller than the probability of former seven. We suggest that criterion eight should be revised as successive five dots are at two sides of center line ,but none dot is at C zone so as that the probablity of corresponding event can be matched with the probablity of other criteria.
