Interpreting Y-chromosomal DNA Miztures with the Presence of Paternal Relatives and Contributors from Different Ethnic Groups
It is not uncommon that in a DNA mixed stain collected, a relative of the suspect rather than the suspect himself is the real contributor. Also, it is not rare to see that contributors to a DNA mixture are of different ethnic groups. These situations are considered in this paper. General formulae are provided for the evaluation of Y-chromosomal DNA mixtures under three different scenarios which are: a relative of a tested suspect is a contributor; a pair of relatives exists within the pool of unknown contributors; the unknown contributors are of different ethnic groups. The usefulness of the formulae is illustrated with examples.
