Residual Ratio Algorithm Calculating the Survival Rate of Patients Who Have Received a Medical Treatment
The paper describes a statistical algorithm called as Residual Ratio Algorithm, which can be employed to calculate the survival rate of patients who have suffered from a disease and received a treatment during a period. The calculation bases on the data that how long the patients had been alive from diagnosed date to the statistics deadline, at which some of the patients are still alive and some cannot be tracked. The residual ratio algorithm is good at dealing with this kind of random censoring data. It has been widely used over years to calculate the reliability of products and its effectiveness has been verified. We improved it and make it more suitable for calculating the survival rate of patients. The algorithm is simple, easy to be understood and programmed, therefore suitable for statistics in hospitals.
