Effect of Moisture on Shear Strength of Interface between Reinforcements and Soils
One of important indicators of reinforced earth strength is interfacial interaction between geotechnical grille and filled-soil, whose main influencing factor is soil moisture. Through interior direct shear test, the shear strength of interface between reinforcements and soils was studied, and soil filling material with different moisture was efflorescent sand and silty clay. The test results confirm: under the same normal stress, with the increase of water content, the shear strength of interface between reinforcements and soils firstly increases and reaches maximum near the optimal-water-content, then decreases, silty clay performances more evident than efflorescent sand. Therefore, during the construction process, controlling soil moisture by appropriate measures, especially preventing higher soil moisture should achieve the best reinforced effect.
