Characterization of Hidden Fault in Osaka
Osaka has been developed in a basin area where the boundaries are defined as active faults.. The highland of Uemachi area is higher than the surrounding lowlands by about 20m. The boundary between the Ue-machi area and the western lowland was identified as Uemachi fault. Since the shape of the surface ground deformation is the same displacement pattern as in the past, it is necessary to develop characterization of fault deformation. Seismic reflection surveys across the fault were studied to characterized fault. Deformation of layers caused by faulting are found to fit well with a curve of hyperbolic tangent that was characterized by parameters of reference width and throw. This paper describes characteristics of typical types of the Uemachi faults based upon the results of seismic as well as boring results.
