THE INTERPLAY BETWEEN INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INTRAPRENEURSHIP – THE CASE OF FLOAT GLASS
The case of the float glass innovation demonstrates the interplay of industry, innovation and entrepreneurships. The visio of float glass was based on the combination of the attributes of products of two separate industries. At first, Pilkington positioned float glass clearly in the plate industry and not in between these industries. Later the technology was introduced also to sheet glass industry and soon it dominated the whole flat glass industry. In our analysis we emphasize on the essence of intrapreneurship and industrial focus. We also illustrate the development of the glass industry by applying the modified version of the design envelope model. Based on the case we also argue that positioning should be part of the corporate strategy.
