THE ROLE OF KNOWLEDGE-INTENSIVE BUSINESS SERVICE IN THE EVOLUTION OF CLUSTER NETWORK STRUCTURE
Research on innovation has shifted its focus from the Schumpeterian type of entrepreneurial innovations towards a new understanding of innovation as a result of interactive processes between different actors embedded in a specific social, political, and economic environment. Consequently, innovation has not only become a more important topic in the context of the market and the firm, but also in the context of regional growth and development. Network structure of industrial clusters has attracted more and more attention from both researchers and policy makers. Why and how does KIBS embeddings impact the evolution of industrial clusters network structure? Does the interaction between KIBS and member firms offer an effective way for it? In order to answer these questions and also better understand the roles of KIBS within industrial clusters, this paper takes the perspective of network structure, constructs the optimizing model of cluster network structure based on the embeddedness of KIBS, and then comprehensively reveals the functional mechanism by using three structure constituents, i.e. network structure, network betweenness centrality and network agglomeration. Finally, based on the results of calculation in UCINET6.125 of correlation matrix of cluster network in two phases, we can summarize the optimization of network structure by the change of three indexes, i.e. network density, between centrality and agglomeration.
