AN ANALYSIS ON THE MECHANISM OF NEW VENTURES CAPABILITY BUILDING
Capability is the important resource of firms competitive advantages. Most of the previous researches on firm capability are based on the assumption that capability exists, and then to research how capability affects firm. Yet few researches focus on how capabilities build. Based on knowledge theory, this paper analyzes the process of capability building through applying cross-level theory. A capability building framework is built. In essential, capability building is a kind of knowledge cross-level activities within firm. Under the action of evolution mechanism, new variation knowledge at individual level flows into organizational level by knowledge transferring, gatekeeper mechanism, knowledge operation, and structural embeddedness mechanism. The bottom-up model supports firm to form a new organizational knowledge aggregation by cross-level transferring among individual, group, and organizational level. And then, new capability uses feedback to affect organizational activities by top-down model. In order to make sure the effectiveness of the capability building, integration mechanism and institutionalization are needed to impel the cross-level transformation of knowledge. Finally, the firm can continuously build its organizational capabilities.
