Nezt-Generation Passive Optical Network Based on OFDM Transmission

We investigate passive optical network (PON) based on optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission as a solution for next-generation optical access network. Compared with other PONs, the system improves the bandwidth efficiency and increases the flexibility to allocate resource dynamically among various services. We present simulation results on the bit error rate (BLR) performance of OFDM signal with quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) after 20km fiber transmission. It is shown that significant progress mainly relies on the implementation of high-speed digital signal processing (DSP).
