Dietary Requirement of Net Energy for Growing Pigs
Seventy-five healthy growing pigs (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire) with an average BW of 22 kg were used to determine the net energy requirement of growing pigs on the basis of growth performance and nitrogen balance. The experiment results indicated that: the NE requirements of growing pigs between 22kg to 42kg didn’t change with their age, the optimum value was 2.590Mcal/Kg (10.837MJ/kg) according to the results of growth rate, feed efficiency and N-retention coefficient, When the level of NE in the diet met the requirements of the growing pigs, the growth performance and the feed efficiency were improved; but too high NE level wasn’t able to improve the growth, even to have negative effect. Key words: Net Energy ; Requirement ; Growth performance ;Nitrogen Balance ; growing pigs Energy is very important in feed, because the cost of energy feed is the highest in feed formulation. So in practice, accessing the energy content of feed ingredients and energy requirement of animals exact became very important to do low cost feed. With the development of feed energy system, net energy was accepted gradually around the world. France is one of the countries who declared net energy as one of feed energy indexes earlier. Now Ireland has used net energy system in swine feed. The previous studies showed that maintain net energy requirement of growing pigs is 71kcal/kgBW0.751 、78kcal/kgBW0.752 、 86kcal/kgBW0.423 per day. But ARC and NRC did not recommend the requirement of production net energy. Production net energy requirement could be gotten by doing slaughter trial and many animal nutritionists are doing this work now. De Lange (2001) recommended the requirement of net energy was 2.286Mcal/kg(90% dry matter)in his study, but this data need to be test further. In China there is no net energy system was used in swine feed and Chinese swine breeding standard did not recommend any data of net energy requirement. In this experiment we studied net energy requirement of growing pigs (22-42kg) on the basis of growth performance and nitrogen balance.
