Tryptophan metabolism and nutition for animals
Tryptophan is one of essential amino acids, it and its metabolites, for example serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), melatonin and so on, are involved in feed intake, reproduction, immunity, anti-stress response, play an important role in the regulation of the bodys metabolism and health. The research of tryptophan was paid more attention for tryptophan was found that it’s the limit amino acid in animal feed. The tryptophan’s biochemical metabolism, the major metabolites and their functions, the relationship between tryptophan and immunity, the safety of tryptophan, as well as the requirements of the tryptophan for pigs were summarized in this review.
