A Nested Logit Model Analysis of Manufacturing Enterprises’Location Choice at the Whole City Level:a Study of Nanchong,Sichuan

A large share of literatures related to the location choice of enterprises has been emerging in China, but most of the researches take the developed cities in the east.Based on data from the second census of basic units of Nanchong City, the medium-sized city of Sichuan, this paper formulates and estimates a nested logit model to analysis the spatial distribution structure of manufacturing enterprises in the entire region of the city. The findings indicate that obvious locational factors attracting manufacturing enterprises lie in the capital strength, infrastructure construction and industrial agglomeration of the region,of which the most important one is the agglomeration economy. And the capital-intensive industry,labor-intensive industry and resource-intensive industry have different location preferences in western cities. Moreover, the enterpriseseconomic types(state-owned, collective or private economy)also have diverse impacts on location choice of manufacturing enterprises. The enterprisesemployment scales as internal aspects significantly affect their decision-making as well.At last, the results propose some important policy implications for the industrial distribution planning and restructuring in western developing cities just like Nanchong.
