Orientation of Nanjing Metropolis Development and Construction of Nanjing-Hefei Metropolitan Area
Nanjing was the capital city of six dynasties,with a refulgent history．From 1949 to 1980s,Nanjing was the second largest city in the Yangtze River Delta region,only inferior to Shanghai．It was one of the important economic centers and heavy chemical industrial bases in China．However,ambiguous orientation led to feint feature for Nanjing city．Therefore,the evolvement of the orientation for Nanjing city was analyzed．The orientations for Nanjing city,other cities along the Yangtze River,and similar international cities were compared．Subsequently,the new orientation for Nanjing city Was concluded:(1)Nanjing is an international famous historical and cultural city;(2)Nanjing is an international research and development center;(3)Nanjing is a national integrated reformation tentative area for independent innovation cities;(4)Nanjing is one of the national major hinges for traffic and transport;(5)Nanjing is a strategic pivot and portal which mainly develops electron and information industry,petrochemical industry,traffic and transport machine and equipment manufacturing,and medern service trade in the Yangtze River Delta region,which can drive the middle and western China to develop;and(6)Nanjing is a core city of Nanjing-Hefei metropolitan area．Based on this development orientation,Nanjing should respond positively to the eastward development strategic of Anhui Province,actualize the strong-united with Hefei,speed up the construction of Nanjing-Hefei Metropolitan Area,and implement the dualcore metropolitan strategy．Integrating the 11 cities of Jianghuai City Group centered around Hefei in Anhui Province and the 8 cities of Nanjing Metropolitan Area to form a strong-united dual-core Metropolitan Area of dumbbell shape．It consists of 16 cities,including Nanjing,Zhenjiang,Yangzhou,Huaian in Jiangsu Province and Hefei,Wuhu,Maanshan,Chuzhou,Chaohu,Huainan,Bengbu,Tongling,Luan,Chizhou,Anqing,Xuancheng in Anhui Province．Speed up the construction of Nanjing-Hefei Metropolitan Area,and be involved in the national strategic key development zones．Build theGateway City Groupconnecting eastern and central regions of the country．In the future Nanjing will be a modern international metropolis which is full of the charm of ancient capital and innovation vigor,having important influence and international competitiveness at the level of national strategy．
