The Development Strategies and the Planning and Design of Static Traffic in the Old City：The Case of Old Areas in Kunshan City
The old city plays an important role in social economy．Meanwhile,it also causes many traffic problems,among which the static traffic problem,namely the parking problem,is very serious．On the one hand,there is a shortage of land for the construction of pubhc parking lots．On the other hand,due to the failure in foreseeing the current rapid increase of private cars,old residential districts are unable to meet the parking need of private car owners．In order to tackle these problems,ways to alleviate pressure of static traffic were firstly searched after：to attach importance to the construction of appertaining parking lots,to improve the type choosing of parking spaces,to develop space and time management strategies of community-based parking,etc．Then,on the basis of guiding principles and results of demand forecasting,discussion Was held on investigating the old city in adragnetway,selecting sites of off-street public parking lots,and,in the meantime,coordinating and designing the parking site selection and the surrounding road traffic environment based on the idea of traffic impact analysis．At last,it was suggested to update the planning of curb parking lots,and to forbid parking during rush hours or in road sections that affects the normal road traffic order．Both of the suggestions are highlighted by their function of supplementing appertaining parking spaces and off-street public parking lots．
