OPTIMIZING MIXING SEQUENCE AND MIXING TIME FOR SCC
To enhance the batching efficiency of self-consolidating concrete (SCC), the mixing of concrete ingredients needs to be optimized. For this reason, a study has been carried out to investigate the effects of mixing sequence and mixing time on the performance of SCC. In the first stage of the study, four different mixing sequences regarding the time of addition of mixing water and superplasticizer were investigated. The results suggested that, with the same superplasticizer dosage, two-stage mixing with delayed addition of superplasticizer produced SCC mixes with the highest flowability. In the second stage of the study, SCC mix with the highest flowability was adopted and four additional SCC mixes were produced with different mixing time for performance evaluation. The results suggested that there is an optimum mixing time, with which the performance of the SCC is the highest. However, the hardened properties of the SCC produced were nearly the same regardless of the mixing sequence and mixing time. The results indicated that there are optimum mixing sequence and mixing time, the adoption of which has a positive impact to the production of SCC.
