STUDY ON THE FLOW PROPERTIES OF CEMENTITIOUS ATERIALS WITH AN AMPHOTERIC COPOLYMER
Superplasticizer is the essential component to prepare self-consolidating concrete with good workability. In this study, an amphoteric copolymer (PAD) was prepared and tested as concrete admixture. PAD was prepared from acrylamide and N, N-dimethyl-N-(3-(β-earboxylate) acryloyloxyethyl) ethanoate (DCA) through free radical polymerization. The test results on mortars indicate that this polymer could uniformly disperse cement particles and enhance the fluidity of the system. Compared to a sulfonated-based superplasticizer (SNF), PAD with proper reactant ratio and molecular weight requires less dosage to achieve good fluidity and provides better fluidity retention. Limited test data also show that PAD has better performance than SNF in terms of slump and slump retention of the resulting concrete.
