DURABILITY PROPERTIES OF SELF COMPACTING CONCRETE PRODUCED USING BLAST FURNACE SLAG

Open porosity, bulk density, matrix density, water vapor diffusion coefficient, water absorption coefficient, apparent moisture diffusivity, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of self compacting concrete produced with cement containing blast furnace slag are presented in the paper. The measurements are performed in dependence on time, for 28-days and l-year periods after mixing. Experimental results show that after 1-year a decrease in open porosity, water vapor diffusion coefficient and water absorption coefficient is observed,as compared to the 28-days data. The apparent reason is the structure compaction due to the secondary pozzolanic reaction which accompanies the use of slag as partial Portland cement replacement and results in the consumption of Ca(OH)2 and C-S-H structures formation.
