THE EFFECTS OF EXPANDER ADMIXTURE ON STRENGTH AND SHRINKAGE CRACKING PROPERTIES OF SELF COMPACTING CONCRETE BY USING ARTIFICIAL SAND
This paper presents a study on using expander admixture in Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) and its effects on the strength and shrinkage cracking properties of concrete mixes. The application of expander admixture has already brought a great improvement for strength and shrinkage cracking properties of SCC. Furthermore, the expander admixture has promoted an interesting possibility for using secondary raw materials in the construction industry. An experiment that was conducted on an artificial sand and high range water reduce admixture PCA-II was produced by Jiangsu Subote Materials Co.,Ltd, Jiangsu Nanjing, China. The results indicated that the existence of expander admixture in artificial sand, aggregate grading, specimen dimension, etc. Has significant effects on the improvement of the strength and shrinkage cracking property of SCC. It is recommended that the rate of expander admixture should be about 6%. For this rate, the compressive strength of SCC increases about 8% by the 28th day, and the shrinkage cracking of SCC does not appear.
