TAIWAN EXPERIENCE AND RECOMMENDATION OF USING SCC
The main theme of this paper is to introduce a show case of applying SCC in large transportation building complex. The design strength (fc) of SCC are 280 kgf/cm2 and 350 kgf/cm2 and the required slump and slump flow are 230-270 mm and 500-700 mm,respectively. Besides, in the concrete design criterior the water content and the cement content are limited to below 160 kg/m3 and less than fc/1.4 kg/m3, respectively, and w/e is higher than 0.42 to avoid autogeneous shrinkage. Total amount of SCC in this project is about 305,000 m3. The content of quality assurance of SCC starts from education, testing, producing,evaluation and discussion and followed by the PDCA cycle. The result shows the SCC used satisfies the design requirement and has excellent performance. The overall building has glossy and shining surface without honeycomb and visual crack. Although the cement used is 50% less than that of ordinary concrete, actual concrete strength is far better than design strength, and the strength efficiency of cement was over 2.1kgf/cm2/kg/m3 as compared to 0.7 kgf/cm2/kg/m3 of ordinary concrete. Besides, in this project the total reduction of CO2 due to using such SCC is more than 56,000 tons tantamount to 1.5 million lauan trees. At the end,trouble-shooting strategy as well as revised SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) of quality assurance of SCC for the furture is recommended.
