BONDING BETWEEN SELF-CONSOLIDATING CONCRETE AND OLD EXISTING CONCRETE

In order to obtain an optimum effect in strengthening concrete structure, the workability, contraction of new concrete and the bonding strength of new concrete to existing concrete are required. In this paper, the bonding strength between self-consolidating concrete and existing concrete was studied. The results indicated that the use of silica fume and optimum superplaticizer could improve the workability of concrete greatly, and produce a high quality self-consolidating concrete for the repair purpose. It could diminish bleeding, and improve the bonding strength between new and old concretes. The silica fume content and workability of SCC, and the position of repair surface have a great influence on the bonding strength. The nominal bonding strength in the case of inclined surface toward side is significantly higher that that in the case of inclined surface downside.
