EXPERIENCES WITH SCC TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY AND APPLICATIONS OF PREFABRICATED ELEMENTS IN MEXICO
Currently, the precast/prefabricated industry in Mexico requires to make changes on its traditional production process; so it needs concretes that help to enable faster placement with out vibration, to eliminate steam curing and operations of finishing with the required quality warranty and to get an efficient process to increase the productivity.SCC is a viable option to get theses changes using it as substitution of conventional or normal concrete. Some kind of prefabricated elements as precast,/prestressed or postensioning member of structural type require a compressive strength at 28 days since 34.32 Mpa to 44.13 Mpa or more depending on member type. The SCC technology used is optimized to get eighty per cent of compressive strength at different hours; for example 12, 14, 16 hours with stability and flowability according to the application.This study focuses on the different applications of SCC in Mexico as I-beams, right beam,double Tee beams, columns, case beams, AASHTO beams. The use of SCC gives a significant benefit to prefabricated producers due to cost reduction, finishing, labor reduction and increment in the productivity. With optimal designs of SCC, the technical and economics advantages and benefits are maximized. Aesthetic and environmental benefits include to improve the appearance of exposed surfaces and noise reduction. A benefit-cost analysis of two type members and the reduction of CO2 by leaving off using steam generators are shown.
