Recent Trend and Future Outlook of IGBT for Hybrid Electric Vehicle
IGBT is a key device for electric inverters, it has been improved mainly for industrial and consumer applications. In recent years, electric motors are spreading as a part of propulsion system of vehicles. Hybrid electric system is a representative and very important technology to reduce fuel consumption of vehicles. The improvement of IGBT will make a contribution to HEV systems. This paper describes the recent developments, the latest achievements, and a future outlook of IGBT technologies. The topics addressed are loss, noise, thermal management, protection, and reliability of IGBT modules for HEV.
