Series IGBT control in VSC-HVDC converter

This paper presents a combined digital and analogue approach for controlling an insulated gate bipolar transistor(IGBT), suitable for series connection of devices in VSC-HVDC system.. Voltage balancing across all of the IGBTs connected in series, power supply for IGBT drive, reliable trigger for IGBT are the most critical issues, especially in transient phases active voltage control and designed snubber circuit is used to solve these problems. this new control system can achieved real-time optimization of the IGBT switching with lowest posible power losses. The optimal switching performance in experiments for both a single IGBT and IGBTs connected in series in given in this paper. This is an effective solution to serives control in VSC-HVDC system.
