Impact of Globalisation on Fiji Sugar Industry
The Fiji sugar industry is currently facing a number of problems both internal and external.The industry has encountered other problems in the past but managed to overcome them.However this time it is encountering a series of related problems which is the most serious threat it is facing in its 130 year history.These problems are in most facets of its operations from cane production,expiring of cane land leases,harvesting,transportation,milling,price,marketing,WTO requirement restricting its special access to European Union market with preferential prices and the structure of the sugar industry.Another hidden problem which normally does not get coverage in the news and public discussion is the politicisation of the industry.
