Chinese Garment Supply Chain in the Pacific:Empirical Evidence from the Fiji Garment Industry
The paper will unravel the different types of commodity supply chains through which the Fiji garment industry is integrated in the global supply chain system.More specifically it will focus on the garment supply chain operated and managed by Chinese multinational subsidiary firms in Fiji.In detail,the paper will examine the following issues:when did Chinese firms began operating from Fiji,the main reasons for operating out of Fiji,the importance of free trade agreements,the major markets,and the type,nature,dynamics,and management of the supply chains.It will also examine the issue of whether industrial upgrading of firms are taking place.The paper will utilise Gereffis (1994) theoretical perspective of Global Commodity Chains (GCC) to unmask and critically examine the Chinese garment firms in Fiji.(129 words)
