A Study on Brand Quality: Private Brand as a Strategy
The worldwide scale economic depression stemming from a U.S.financial depression had serious influence on Japan.Furthermore,the rise of the prices of gasoline and food materials led to the fall of consumers attractiveness to consumers,produced reduction of goods sales,and caused the situation which was not experienced until now,such as a dismissal of non-regular employment laborers,such as a contract worker and period laborers,or a cancellation of hiring of new graduates students focusing on the manufacturing industry such as auto industry and home-electronics makers.125,000 peoples dismissal is expected from October,2008 to March,2009.The prime minister is expressing it as the Economic crisis once in 100 years. The height of export dependence of Japan became clear.Under such environment,the supermarket and the convenience store reduced the price frequently centering on their own private brand goods.Food and the clothing are private brand goods of high quality and budget prices,while national brand articles is high quality and a high price. Retail trade of convenience store and supermarket maintained their achievements,while many companies make downward correction of the future performance prediction.This paper examines the present condition of the retail trade in Japan,the present condition of a private brand,and its problem.
