EFFECTS OF JOINTS ORIENTIATIONS AND THEIR COMBINATIONS ON STABILITY OF TUNNEL
The strength of rock mass can be greatly degraded by joints, especially by joint sets cutting the rock mass into blocks, which can bring big hazards to underground excavations. Due to the complexity of underground conditions and limit of in-situ data tested, the failure mechanism of jointed rock mass is till not very clear. In this paper, the effects of joint orientations and their combinations on stability of tunnel are analyzed numerically, and the failure modes of surrounding rock mass cut by different joint sets with different orientations under different tectonic stress are also vividly shown and discussed.
