A DISCONTINUOUS SUB-BLOCK MODEL FOR ROCK MASS
Rock mass, which consists of joints and rocks are intervenient of continuous and discontinuous. The uncertainty of inner structure induces the complexity of its mechanic behavior in macroscopic view. In this paper, taking the continuous problem and the discontinuous problem into account, a discontinuous sub-block model is brought forward from the view of multi-scale coupling. The discontinuous sub-block model is on the base of the method of discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA) in theory. In the new model, rock from the cutting of rock mass by joints is defined as block. And the block is cut into smaller block, which is defined as sub-block. The sub-block is isotropic and homogeneous. Its the basal element in numerical simulation. The failure of rock mass is a progressive process. It is assumed that the rock mass and rock block belong to the macroscopic view and the sub-block belongs to the macroscopic view. There are two kinds of contacts between sub-blocks. One is continuous and the other is discontinuous. The continuity conditions can change along the sub-block contacts and the continuous contacts can convert into discontinuous ones using Mohr-Coulomb criterion. The two kinds of contacts are themselves modeled using the Augmented Lagrangian Method. At the end, the correction and affectivity of the discontinuous sub-block model are proved by the example of a block on an incline.
