Numerical analysis on the rules of coal movement and the failure mechanism and the force characteristics of the powered supports due to mechanized top-coal caving in steep thick seam
By using UDEC2D distinct element method, this paper analyses the essential rules of coal and rock movement, the characteristics of coals deformation and failure, and the major principal stress in the process of top-coal caving in steep thick seam. The force characteristics and the movement trend of the powered supports for top-coal caving working face has been discussed by using FLAC3D finite difference method. The results showed the conclusion similar to the field conditions, which is of important theoretical meaning to direct the practice in the similar engineering.
