Mining limit of lower coal seams to stability of upper dip entries

Stability of dip entries may be influenced by mining degree of lower coal seams indirectly. Three dip entries in upper coal seam are safe under their initial conditions. But coal mining in lower coal seam which straight distance is 57 m may influence these dip entries. On SAW-2000 Electro-hydraulic Ser vo-controlled Rock Mechanics Testing System, uniaxial and triaxial tests were executed to give numerical calculation mechanical parameters of rocks. By three dimensional numerically method, special models are constructed to simulate laws of stresses, deformation and plastic zone. Deformation of dip entries presents that the key width of coal pillar to rock stable is 9m, and the maximum extracted width of lower coal seam is 27m. zz-stress states in central plane of numerical models verify results from deformation of dip entries, which is valuable to coal mining engineering.
