Effect of Interaction between Negative and Positive Surface Charges of Soil Particles on Soil Acidification
This article deals with the inhibition of Fe/Al oxides on the acidification of the variable charge soils with high content of free iron oxides. The overlapping of the diffuse layers between positively charged Fe/Al oxides and negatively charged phyllosilicates in the soils was used to interpret the effect of Fe/Al oxides on soil acidification. The overlapping of the diffuse layers of soil particles decreased the effective negative charge density on the soil phyllosilicates and resulted in low contents of exchangeable soil acidity.
