Shift of Microbial Composition Structure and Diversity in an Acid Metal Polluted Soil

Effect of acid heavy metal pollution on microbial population levels, composition structure and diversity was determined in soils of Dabao Mountain, China. Our results showed significant alternation in microbial community structure between fungi and bacteria. Bacterial DGGE profiles showed numerous changes in DNA bands. Fungal and bacterial populations were significantly and negatively related to soil acidity and metal contents. The bacteria/fungi ratio had negative correlation with labile metal fractions. Fungal, bacterial DNA bands diversity index was negatively correlated with soil acidity and metal contents. Paddy soil had lower microbial population and diversity, but higher metal concentration than upland soil.
