Sulphate Sorption and Desorption in Acidified Forest Soil Profiles
The aim of the study is to identify the process of sulphate adsorption and desorption in typical horizons of acid soil profiles (Podzols, Cambisols). Sulphate sorption characteristics were determined in soil samples from elevation transect of the Smedava mountain located in the Jizera Mountains ( Czech Republic). Mobility and sorption of sulphate is highly affected by soil characteristics. The effect of stand factors (like forest type or altitude) was indicated. A strong difference between organic and mineral horizons was shown. Surface organic horizons showed rather sulphate desorption, while the mineral horizons showed sulphate sorption that could be well described by isotherms.
