Transformation of Organic P and Soil Microbial Activity as Influenced by Soybean Genotypes with Different P Efficiency

Two soybean varieties, BX10 (P-efficient) and BD2 ( P-inefficient) were selected for a pot experiment to study their mechanism of adaptation to low P soil. The soil planted with BX10 had a higher level of soil available P than when it was planted with BD2, both at different growth periods and when root powder was applied. There was a significant difference between soybean genotypes and P application levels on the soil acid phosphatase (APase) activity and soil microbial biomass P level. BX10 had a higher level of soil APase activity and soil microbial biomass P than BD2 under both low P and high P treatments; P application significantly increased soil APase activity for both varieties.
